# Borçelik R&D Test Center receives TÜRKAK accreditation

> Borçelik’s R&D Test Center was accredited by TÜRKAK under TS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017. The accredited scope is limited to four named test areas.

Borçelik’s R&D Test Center, part of Borusan Group company Borçelik, has been accredited by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK) under the TS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard. Registered with accreditation number AB-2215-T, the center has begun offering its test and analysis capabilities to external customers.

The accreditation records the center’s technical competence, impartiality and reliability of results for the accredited tests after independent assessment. Borçelik R&D Test Center’s accredited service scope is limited to four areas: tensile testing of metallic and welded materials, Vickers hardness testing, coating thickness measurement on metallic materials with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and salt spray corrosion testing of coated or painted materials.

## What does the scope include?

Tensile tests carried out under TS EN ISO 6892-1 determine the room-temperature mechanical strength, yield and tensile limits, and elongation properties of steel and other metallic materials. Vickers hardness tests under TS EN ISO 6507-1 measure the surface and internal-structure hardness of materials.

SEM analyses under ASTM B748 examine the thickness of metallic coatings from material cross-sections with sub-micron precision. Salt spray tests under ASTM B117-19 evaluate the corrosion resistance of coated and painted materials under accelerated ageing conditions.

According to Borçelik, test results within the accredited scope also support international acceptance processes under TÜRKAK’s multilateral recognition agreements with the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). The company says the center is intended to provide technical support for product development, quality assurance, damage analysis and export processes in sectors including automotive, white goods, construction, manufacturing and metals.

The center uses SI-traceable calibration by authorized organizations, certified reference materials, standard witness samples, inter-laboratory comparison programs and personnel comparison studies in its measurement processes. Borçelik says measurement uncertainty calculations are reflected in test reports.
