# Erdemir says it is producing HY-80 and HY-100 steels for national submarine

> At TEKNOFEST Mavi Vatan, Erdemir General Manager Şaban Yazıcı said the company is producing HY-80 and HY-100 steels needed for submarines, while about 40,000 tonnes of plate for MUGEM are planned.

Erdemir presented its steel work for Turkey’s naval projects at TEKNOFEST Mavi Vatan, held at Gölcük Shipyard Command.

Erdemir General Manager Şaban Yazıcı said the company attended the event with two different product groups: one for an aircraft carrier and one for a submarine. Yazıcı said Erdemir is producing the HY-80 and HY-100 steels required for submarines, and that the newly produced national submarine will be manufactured with these steels.

Yazıcı also said the meetings held with defence industry companies at the event led Erdemir to focus especially on substitution steels that are not produced domestically and are imported. He said the company plans to work on these areas with its R&D teams.

The article also stated that Erdemir is producing high-performance ship steels used in MUGEM, the National Aircraft Carrier. It reported that approximately 40,000 tonnes of ship plate to be used in MUGEM’s construction is planned to be produced by Erdemir, and identified EH460 grade ship steel as a product used on the project’s deck.

Yazıcı added that Erdemir is the only company in Turkey producing these products and that Turkey is one of five countries worldwide producing such steel grades.
