# Global crude steel output edged down in July as Türkiye continued to grow

> Worldsteel data showed global crude steel production at 149.2 million tonnes in July 2026, down 0.3% year on year, while Türkiye increased output by 7.0%.

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) reported that crude steel production among the 70 countries covered by its monthly data reached 149.2 million tonnes in July 2026. The figure was 0.3% lower than in July 2025.

China remained the largest producer, with July output down 3.6% year on year to 76.9 million tonnes. India produced 14.4 million tonnes, up 1.9%, while the United States rose 4.4% to 7.4 million tonnes. Japan produced 6.9 million tonnes, up 0.4%.

Among other top producers, Russia was estimated at 5.7 million tonnes, up 3.3%, and South Korea produced 5.7 million tonnes, up 6.4%. Türkiye increased crude steel output by 7.0% year on year to 3.4 million tonnes in July. Germany, also estimated, produced 2.8 million tonnes, up 3.0%, while Brazil produced 2.8 million tonnes, up 0.1%.

Viet Nam recorded the strongest July increase among the top 10 producers, lifting output by 34.7% compared with July 2025 to 2.7 million tonnes.

For January-July 2026, the 70 reporting countries produced 1.0812 billion tonnes of crude steel, down 0.6% from the same period of 2025. China’s seven-month output fell 3.1% to 577.0 million tonnes, while India rose 6.1% to 101.1 million tonnes and the United States increased 6.0% to 50.2 million tonnes.

Türkiye produced 23.2 million tonnes in the first seven months of the year, up 7.9% year on year. Germany rose 8.1% to 21.4 million tonnes, Brazil declined 1.2% to 19.1 million tonnes, and Viet Nam increased 28.0% to 17.9 million tonnes over the same period.

Worldsteel noted that the 70 countries included in the table accounted for about 98% of global crude steel production in 2025.
