POSCO links overseas steel expansion to Korean low-carbon investment
POSCO’s 2035 roadmap combines revenue and profit targets with planned growth spending and an additional 10 million tonnes of steel capacity by 2031.
POSCO plans to add 10 million tonnes of steel production capacity by 2031 in markets including India, the United States and Indonesia. Under the group’s roadmap, profits earned overseas would be reinvested in low-carbon transition projects in Korea.
The report said POSCO Group was targeting revenue of 187 trillion won and operating profit of 13.1 trillion won by 2035. Chairman Chang In-hwa outlined a strategy centred on steel, strategic resources and energy resources at a CEO Investor Day event in Seoul.
To support that strategy, the group planned to invest 16.7 trillion won in future growth projects between 2026 and 2028. Its plans also included expanding liquefied natural gas trading and developing renewable energy projects, including offshore wind in Korea and solar power overseas.
